0–100, higher is better. How it is calculated

The website www.elektrohandwerk.de is a professionally maintained platform operated by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Medienwerbung GmbH under the Zentralverband der Deutschen Elektro- und Informationstechnischen Handwerke (ZVEH). It focuses on providing comprehensive information about energy efficiency, electrical installations, and related services targeted primarily at private homeowners and electrical trade professionals in Germany. The site offers educational content, interactive tools, brochures, and a search function to find qualified electrical specialists, positioning itself as a leading resource in the German energy efficiency and electrical trade sector. Technically, the website is built on the TYPO3 CMS platform and employs modern web technologies including JavaScript, CSS3, and HTML5. It integrates a consent management platform (Usercentrics) for GDPR compliance and uses Google Tag Manager and TikTok Pixel for analytics and marketing. The site is hosted on RZone servers, indicating a professional hosting environment. Performance and mobile optimization are good, with accessible navigation and SEO best practices implemented. From a security perspective, the site enforces HTTPS and uses a consent management platform to manage user privacy. No critical vulnerabilities or exposed sensitive data were detected. However, the site lacks explicit security headers and a published security or incident response policy. No vulnerability disclosure or security.txt file is present, which could be improved to enhance transparency and trust. Overall, the website demonstrates a high level of professionalism, content quality, and compliance with privacy regulations. It serves as a trustworthy information source for energy efficiency and electrical services in Germany, with strong branding and a clear target audience. Strategic recommendations include enhancing security headers, publishing a security policy, and adding a vulnerability disclosure mechanism to further strengthen the security posture and user trust.

This scan rated NIS2 with an earlier keyword method that is no longer shown; rescan for the per-article view. Risk management, continuity, supply chain, training, MFA, management oversight (Art. 20) and incident reporting (Art. 23) need internal evidence, and Guard cannot tell whether NIS2 applies to this organisation.

GDPR is indicative only, based on publicly visible signals: Articles 7, 12, 13 and 32 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 and Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive. Not a certification or legal assessment.

Priority findings

9 findings rated critical or high. Fix these first.

  1. GDPR outside view

These are the privacy signals visitors and data protection authorities look for under GDPR.

    • Critical

EU business without adequate privacy measures

EU businesses are subject to strict GDPR requirements

What to do: Implement comprehensive GDPR compliance including privacy policy, cookie consent, and data protection measures

    • High

      No Cookie Policy found

GDPR requires clear information about cookie usage

What to do: Add a dedicated cookie policy explaining cookie usage and purposes

  2. Network security

Services reachable from the internet are the first thing attackers probe. Anything open that does not need to be should be closed.

    • Critical

      Critical Service Exposed: MySQL

Port 3306 (MySQL) is publicly accessible - MySQL - Database server

What to do: Immediately restrict access to MySQL using firewall or VPN

Security headers are instructions your web server sends to every visitor’s browser. Missing ones leave visitors more exposed to attacks such as clickjacking and injected scripts.

    • High

      Missing X-Frame-Options header

      Prevents clickjacking attacks

What to do: Add "X-Frame-Options: DENY" or "X-Frame-Options: SAMEORIGIN"

How this score is calculated

The security score runs 0–100, higher is better. It is the plain average of the security checks that completed in this scan, each counted equally. A check that could not run is left out: it counts neither as a pass nor as a fail.

Not counted

  • NIS2 outside view: Re-weights evidence from the TLS, email, DNS, network and hygiene checks, so counting it would count that evidence twice. Shown on its own.
  • OffSeq Observations: An AI reading of the site, useful context but not reproducible evidence. Shown on its own.

Findings that cap the score at 49

Each of these is serious on its own, so while any is present the site cannot rate better than high risk, however good the other checks are.

  • The certificate is not trusted by browsers
  • The website is not served over HTTPS
  • A database, remote desktop, file-sharing or Telnet service is reachable from the internet · found on this site
  • The page loads a script from a compromised source
  • The domain registration has expired
  • SPF authorises every server to send mail as the domain

Partial scans

When the site blocks Guard or most checks cannot run, the score covers only the checks that ran (usually DNS and email), is capped at 75 and is shown as partial, without a risk level.

Business context

Business profile

The website operates within the energy sector, specifically focusing on electrical trade and energy efficiency for private consumers. It leverages its affiliation with the ZVEH to establish credibility and authority. The business model centers on providing educational content, facilitating connections between consumers and qualified electrical specialists, and promoting energy-efficient technologies and government incentives. Revenue streams likely include partnerships, sponsorships, and possibly lead generation for electrical contractors. The target customer segments are homeowners interested in energy savings and sustainability, as well as electrical trade professionals seeking to engage with end customers. The site’s partnership ecosystem includes related industry portals and career platforms, enhancing its market reach and service offerings. Growth indicators include active content updates, interactive tools, and a strong social media presence. The platform’s strategic position as a trusted information hub supports its competitive advantage in the German market.

Security posture

The website exhibits a mature security posture with mandatory HTTPS encryption and integration of a consent management platform ensuring GDPR compliance. The absence of exposed sensitive data and use of reputable analytics and marketing tools further support its security stance. However, the lack of explicit security headers such as Content-Security-Policy, X-Frame-Options, and X-Content-Type-Options represents a gap that could be exploited in certain attack scenarios. The absence of a published security policy or incident response contact limits transparency and preparedness for security incidents. No vulnerability disclosure policy or security.txt file is present, which is a best practice for responsible vulnerability management. Overall, the site is secure for general users but could benefit from enhanced security controls and transparency to meet higher security standards and regulatory requirements.

Recommendations

  1. Implement comprehensive HTTP security headers including Content-Security-Policy, X-Frame-Options, and X-Content-Type-Options to mitigate common web vulnerabilities.
  2. Publish a clear security policy and incident response contact information on the website to improve transparency and user trust.
  3. Develop and publish a vulnerability disclosure policy or security.txt file to encourage responsible reporting of security issues.
  4. Regularly audit third-party scripts and libraries to ensure no vulnerable components are included.
  5. Enhance monitoring and logging capabilities to detect and respond to potential security incidents promptly.

Technical notes

Notes

The website is built on TYPO3 CMS, a robust and widely used content management system suitable for enterprise and medium-sized organizations. The technology stack includes modern JavaScript frameworks and CSS3 for responsive and accessible design. Integration with Usercentrics provides a compliant consent management solution, while Google Tag Manager and TikTok Pixel enable advanced analytics and marketing capabilities. Hosting on RZone servers suggests reliable infrastructure. Performance is moderate with good mobile optimization and accessibility features. SEO is well implemented with proper meta tags and structured navigation. Opportunities for modernization include adopting additional security headers and possibly upgrading analytics to privacy-enhanced modes. Technical risks are minimal but should be managed through continuous security assessments and updates.
Standards and sources

Reference chips under each finding point to the standard, regulation or specification the finding relates to. They are taken from the official datasets below and mapped conservatively: a finding with no defensible link shows none. NIS2 and GDPR references mark where a finding is relevant evidence, not a compliance verdict. Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/2690 binds digital infrastructure and digital service providers; for other entities it is the most detailed public reading of the Article 21 measures. WCAG, EN 301 549, European Accessibility Act and Web Accessibility Directive references name the requirement an automated accessibility rule relates to; they are not a conformance verdict.
